It's a boy!

Gregory Joseph Meagher
born at 10:52 AM on May 29, 2009
7 lbs, 11 oz
19-1/2 inches

Ginny began labor at about 1:30 AM on Friday morning, we checked into the hospital at 8:15, and Gregory was born at 10:52 AM. For now he's "Gregory", and (as with Judith) we'll see how his personality develops before we decide about any nicknames. So far, he has a very mild temperament, and has taken pretty well to nursing. I stayed with Ginny in the hospital the first night, and he was quite happy to sleep in my arms while Ginny slept. Just a little bit of fussing.

Judith spent the day in daycare, and then spent the night at our house with Sr. Terry, which was just perfect for Judith - she loves her "Auntie Terry"! Judith was (almost) the first person to hear the news - we called her at daycare to let her know she had a new baby brother. (Brooke, her care provider, heard first, since we had to call her to get to Judith!) Around 6 pm, Sr. Terry picked up Judith and brought her to the hospital to meet Gregory - she immediately wanted to "hold the baby"! She's pretty good at saying "Gregory", although most of the time she refers to him as "she" or "her" - she'll figure out the male pronouns eventually.

Anyway, I'm home with Judith for the afternoon now. I put her down for a nap, although I still hear her bouncing around upstairs. But this has been my first chance to get any pictures posted. After "nap" Judith and I will go to church for the Saturday evening Mass, and then we will go back to the hospital for to see Mommy and Gregory (I'll see if I can bring Communion to Ginny). I'll head home with Judith, Ginny will spend the night at the hospital with Gregory, and if all is well they should be discharged tomorrow morning.

Ginny is doing well, but is still exhausted - she got essentially no sleep prior to labor starting. She was able to get a few hours last night here and there between nursings. The hospital experience has been MUCH better than when Judith was born - her doctor and nurses have been great, the maternity ward is not overcrowded, and Ginny and Gregory have a spatious, comfortable PRIVATE room, with its own bathroom and shower, and an easy chair that pulls out to form a bed that was almost long enough for me, on which I was able to get some sleep last night.

Without further ado, here are some pictures! I especially like the one of Mommy, Judith, and Gregory together!

We are all smiles and giggles. God is Good in blessing us and introducing our beautiful and precious grandson. He is every bit as adorable as our Judith the moment she was born and as with Judith, we can't wait to see him in person.
We are so thrilled with the newest member of our family. Thanks be to God.
