Random Updates

Many, many thanks to Robert for taking on the role of converting video and posting it to the blog! I know that this is a "downer" of a post because there are no new pictures or videos. We meant to do a general update with our Christmas cards, but we never got as far as Christmas cards this year, so that idea failed.

Most folks don't have our new address yet - and we don't want to post it online here. But we also intended to put that in the Christmas cards and it just didn't happen.

So, I think we'll conserve trees and energy for shipping things by just including the new address when we send out birth announcements! The family already knows, but we've been slow to let others know that we are happily expecting a second child at the end of May! I spent about three months sick (if you were wondering why there were no posts) and am now frequently tired, but doing much better!

All is well with Judith and baby. We haven't "officially" talked to Judith about the fact that she's going to be a big sister yet (four months is still a very, very long time off for her!), but she's starting to get the basic idea. Her day care provider is also expecting a baby (in March) and so the day care provider's daughter has started asking me about my baby, too. Judith is fairly attentive to the conversations around her, so yesterday she wanted to know if she was going to be able to buckle the baby into its car seat and high chair when it comes. I explained, No, babies move a lot and Mommy and Daddy will do that for a while, but eventually Judith will be able to help.

She was then very excited and said, "And I can help Mommy give baby a diaper change?" Of course you can, Judith! Well - this is all a 2 1/2 year old who is fixated on giving diaper changes to her dollies needs to hear - that she'll be able to help with diaper changes on a real, live baby! She was excited about that. And then she went back about her business. We figure all the questions and issues will become much more persistent in a few months when Mommy really cannot continue to hold and carry her as much as she wants (as it is, holding her for the straight hour of Mass every week is really starting to do a number on my back!), and as Miss Brooke has her little baby and Judith sees what a real, tiny little baby is like! Should be interesting!

And no, to answer the question that everyone asks, we do not know if it will be a girl or a boy. We had the ultrasound last week and we didn't want to find out - which is good, because the baby kept its legs crossed most of the time, making it hard for the technician to even get the measurements she wanted in terms of leg length!

That's it from us for now. Don't worry - we still do take pictures of Judith - I've just been very, very slow getting them oriented, red eye reduced, and shrunk to fit on the web! Sorry! We'll work on it! And in the meantime, Robert is enjoying the fun he's had upgrading this old home computer to handle the video pieces. So hopefully you'll get to see a little more of Judith's personality as time goes on!

Take care, all, and have a great weekend!

Elmo and Snoopy are going to wonder what's going on if she suddenly stops changing their diapers... She'll have to take turns so they don't feel neglected!

I still have to carry KG places - but it's really the picking her up that kills my back. Couple of tricks - let her climb up your legs; have someone else pick her up then hand her to you. I don't know how you hold 30 lbs for an hour, even when not pregnant! That's amazing. "Luckily" for us (not so much for others at our parish) KG and her friends think church is playtime, and spend the hour climbing the stairs and running in circles around the lobby.

KG is also looking forward to helping with diaper changes and putting the baby to bed - we got a couple great picture books about toddlers & new babies that have helped a lot as to expectations on what little babies can do. I'll email you the urls.

Has Judith figured out that her baby sibling is growing inside Mommy? I think it took KG until about last month to really be sure that everyone wasn't growing babies in their tummies (herself included)!

We'll just have to sit tight and be patient. I know I don't have time to do everything and I don't have a toddler running around the house.
No matter what Judith does, it's just adorable and I'm sure she's going to want to change baby's diaper over and over and over.

Kathleen has some good suggestions for holding Judith rather than picking her up.

Congratulations! I echo Kathleen's suggestion for letting someone else do the toddler handoff (I usually end up participating in this on Sunday mornings when Kaitlin runs over for a hug before Mass.) Expectant mom that I am, I still don't mind picking up the occasional toddler. Check with me in a couple of years, I guess. Glad to hear that your ultrasound went well - Nick and I go for ours tomorrow, and we don't plan to find out either. :-)
