Moving Update

Well, it's about 12:15 in the morning, the movers are coming at 8:00, and we're in good shape. Robert is taking the last load of items we're taking care of over right now. We still have a few odds and ends to deal with, and most of that will happen after the movers take care of the furniture and the large boxes. But really, we moved so much over this weekend that we have less than 30 boxes for the movers to take care of.

We haven't unpacked a whole lot, but we are starting to feel that we really are going to fit into the space. We do have two issues: the air conditioning isn't working (since it's going to be over 100 degrees this work, that needs to be addressed ASAP) and the carpets were not cleaned before we moved in. Actually, there is no way that he had the place professionally cleaned at all. So, we've been taking care of a lot of that this weekend. It wasn't super dirty - they barely lived there - but the floors are dirty, there are basic crumbs in the cabinets and the stove top is certainly not clean - though I'd be surprised if the oven has EVER been turned on!

One of the reasons we are so far along is because Sr. Terry came and spent more than 7 hours today REALLY cleaning our kitchen and helping us get it all packed up. We cannot thank her enough for all the time and energy she put into it. And really - our kitchen hasn't looked so good since we moved in (which is the point, but I know I couldn't get it to that point!). We are so very, very grateful!

We do believe that this is going to be a great space for us - a good size and layout. Moving is hectic and stressful, but we are coming through it OK. We'll see how Judith does when she comes home from day care to a new home. Fingers crossed all will go well. Judith was sick with a fever Friday night and all day Saturday, but she seemed to be doing better today.

It is bittersweet to say good bye to this home. It has been a very good home for us - and the only home Judith has ever known. It is essentially where we have spent our entire marriage as well. It's a good house, and we hope whoever ends up living here after the bank finishes with the foreclosure, etc., is very happy. We will also miss our garden. We have worked hard over the three years to really improve the soil out there and to get things to the point where we have an abundant harvest that we can enjoy for months at a time. We are currently getting yellow squash, zucchini, big tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, eggplant, cucumbers and cantaloupes (well - the cantaloupes will be ripe in about 2 weeks - after we've left unfortunately). We will miss continuing to harvest all of these items for the next six to eight weeks. Watching Judith go outside every evening to pick and eat cherry tomatoes and grape tomatoes right off the vine is amazingly precious. She just loves her "matoes." She will find and eat every single one that is red or even orange. (She's been known to pick and eat the green ones, but is never as happy with them.) We'll continue to come back and get items over the next week - we've paid our rent through the end of the month and will get our harvest until then.

Well, I have shoes to box up and a dresser to get ready, and as soon as Robert gets back we are going to have a little dessert and go to sleep! Tomorrow will be a very, very busy day! But we are excited and are looking forward to this part of our adventure!
