One Hour Into Summer...

...and it's 104 degrees (at 6 p.m.) and will be just as hot if not more so tomorrow. Southern California is hotter, but this is certainly a statement by Mother Nature! Judith and I have taken the opportunity to spend a day inside, with the AC on, and the blinds drawn to keep the house from heating up too much. So much for getting outside to enjoy the season. Oh well...

On an end of spring note, there were three little swallows that hatched on our front porch about two weeks ago. They have been growing and growing, and as Judith and I went out to get the mail today, one of them stepped out of the nest to fly. She swooped down basically to just land on the porch. She looked around and then flew off! Yeah for the birdie!

Swallows are protected, so we cannot remove their nest. This is the second year that these birds have nested there and had little birdies that have hatched and thrived, which is very cute. Of course it also means that a great deal of our front porch is covered in bird do-do, but you put up with such things, I suppose. Once they leave later in the summer, we can clean up most of it (getting all of it off of concrete is tricky!).

Just a little taste of the beginning of summer. We hope you all celebrate the longest day of the year in the best way you can! As Judith says, "Is that sunshine?" Indeed it is, and LOTS of it today!
