Well, it's been a while since we've added an entry. Actually, this is Robert, aka Dad, positing for the first time ever. We're really grateful for Uncle John & Aunt Karen updating the "long dormant" blog a couple of weeks back. Let's just say we've been really, really busy, especially Ginny. The part-time liturgy job, which is normally 14 hours a week, expanded to quite a lot more during Lent, with a lot of churchy things happening that demanded more time than usual.
I became an uncle for the first time yesterday - Ginny's sister Katie gave birth to a baby boy, Alexander Thomas. Little Alex was 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and 19 inches long, with lots of dark hair, and is absolutely adorable. So Judith now has a little cousin, and Ginny and I have a little nephew. Judith is looking forward to meeting her new cousin next week, as Ginny & Judith will be traveling back to Chicago to help out when Katie comes home from the hospital.
Judith is still having a wonderful time being a baby. She has fun playing with her toys, but she is really beginning to appreciate the joys of playing with household objects, like a wooden spoon, or a rubbermaid container, or the long wooden stick we use to keep the doorwall from opening. As Ginny says, we're glad she hasn't smacked us in the shin, or busted the TV with the stick yet.
Now that it's warmer out (because we had a really cold winter here in California...) Judith has been spending more time outside. We have a nice neighborhood park just a 5 minute walk away, and Judith just loves swinging in the swings, and going down the slides with Mom & Dad. Yesterday I took her to the park on my own, while Ginny did some work around the house, and I tried pointing out to Judith the different kinds of plants - the lovely fragrant jasmine, which she seemed kind of scared of, and the aromatic rosemary and lavendar. I rubbed some of the rosemary on my finger for Judith to smell, but instead she tried to put my finger in her mouth. Maybe she thought the rosemary would be really tasty, but I think it's just because she's teething - we're still waiting for those top teeth to come in. We also stood in the gazebo in the park, and listened to our voices echo when we stood right in the middle. For Judith the most entertaining part was when I put her down on the grass, and I crawled in circles around her - she just laughed and laughed at that. And she just has the most precious laugh, which could brighten up the gloomiest day.
Judith had a nice Easter - the Easter bunny brought her some new books. The photo at the top shows her in her little Easter dress, after discovering some eggs hidden around the house for her. Meanwhile, the Easter bunny brought me a dark chocolate bunny, which went very nicely with a glass of port... Easter baskets can be fun for grownups! We tried feeding Judith some little bits of bread with our Easter dinner (rack of lamb, elegantly prepared by Ginny). We thought Judith was really enjoying the bread, because it kept disappearing as fast as we gave it to her, but it turned out she was mostly just throwing it on the floor. She also enjoyed some nice Easter egg yolks later in the week, but her favorite foods remain her mashed up fruits - banana, papaya, avocado, and of course apples & pears. This week we cooked up about 12 pounds of apples & pears. At the rate she goes through it, that will last... about 3 weeks (we freeze it in ice cube trays, and defrost it a few weeks at a time). The amount she eats is just incredible - we measured the amount of solid food she ate in one day, and per pound of body weight, it would be equivalent to me eating about 25 pounds of food. And yet she's still small for her age. Developmentally she's doing all the right stuff, so we're not too worried.

Anyway, that's what's going on... it's been an adventure for me learning how to use this blog software. Once upon a time I knew how to use computers. Then they made computers easier to use, and suddenly I didn't know how to do anything anymore. The other day we had some kids over in our house... long story, but they ended up playing hide & seek while text-messaging each other clues about where they were hiding and stuff using some little electronic gizmos. They didn't have stuff like that when I was a kid, and now I find it weird and scary.

LOVE the Easter dress! She is too cute! It would be even better as Easter PANTS, but we'll take what we can get...
Love the picture of Judith in her Easter dress. It's amazing the things parents will do to make their children laugh. Judith's dad is a hoot, but he's right, they didn't have text messaging when he was a kid. We all know he walked 5 miles to school, up hill, with holes in his shoes and he had to carry a back pack that weighed 10 lbs. Better whatch out for that wodden spoon, too, daddy.
